On Thursday, Google expanded access to its AI assistant, Gemini, with the release of a dedicated iOS app, making it easier for iPhone users to engage with the AI without relying on the Google app or mobile web. This standalone app for iOS supports text-based interactions across 35 languages and introduces the new Gemini Live feature, which allows for real-time conversation in 12 languages, including English, Spanish, French, and Hindi. Google plans to broaden language support for Gemini Live soon.

Even though the Google app and online interface had previously provided access to many of Gemini’s features, such as recipe suggestions and academic support, Gemini Live is only available on the iOS app, which improves user interaction with conversational AI. Additionally, users can now create photos using Google’s Imagen 3 model, which is a return to image generation for Advanced, Business, and Enterprise customers. This capability was previously halted because of worries about historical inconsistencies in generated content.

With the help of Google extensions, users may ask Gemini for customized information from other Google services, including Gmail, Maps, and Calendar, in addition to text and image-based answers. Beginning in the United States, Google first released Gemini for Android in February. Later, it expanded to Europe and Asia, adding support for other languages in regions including Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan.

Siri with ChatGPT currently accessible in the iOS 18.2 public beta and scheduled for a wider release shortly. Apple is also progressing AI integration. Furthermore, Apple has made references to integrating with Google’s Gemini in the future, which would improve Apple’s AI capabilities. At this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple SVP Craig Federighi hinted that the new Gemini iOS app would be the first step towards a larger AI partnership between Apple and Google.
