For its much-anticipated all-electric Gravity SUV, which is essential to the company’s expansion, Lucid Motors has formally launched orders. With a $1,000 refundable deposit, interested clients can reserve the “Grand Touring” model on Lucid’s website. With a starting price of $94,900, this premium trim will go into production by the end of the year.
Like the existing Lucid Air car, the Gravity SUV has a lot of features. With the help of two electric motors that provide 828 horsepower, it can go more than 440 kilometres between charges. Its practical design has two rows of seats as standard, with the option to add a third row, making it an even more appealing car for families.
The launch of the Gravity is crucial for Lucid. Through price reductions and the introduction of a more cheap variant, the business has attempted to boost sales of the Air sedan. These initiatives, however, have not yet been able to bridge the gap between actual and anticipated sales, which has prompted Lucid to look for more investment from Saudi Arabia, its largest stakeholder.
The Gravity’s SUV form factor appeals especially to North American consumers, which could increase Lucid’s clientele. In addition, a more affordable “Touring” model with a starting price of $79,900 will be offered in late 2025. After examining Lucid’s online configurator, car critic Kyle Conner observed that, despite its high initial price, the Grand Touring model can easily surpass its starting price with additional amenities.
Even while Lucid offers a $7,500 lease credit, its cars do not qualify for the federal EV tax credit at the time of sale, thus pricing is still a problem. However, this tax credit might be altered under the incoming administration of President-elect Donald Trump in 2019, which would further complicate Lucid’s ability to compete in the EV market.
